Dan Hall’s debut exhibition last weekend at JM Gallery, Portobello Rd showcased a collection of his portraits of his teenage friends, as well as his grandmother, observing and contemplating these two very different periods in life. Approaching and ending adulthood, these two groups are experiencing things for the first and last time. Strong, vibrant and proud, the photographs, shot purely on film, are printed large on the gallery walls are at once social documentary as well as fashion photography. Overall a sense of exuberance, beauty and the joyful experience of life shines out – he plays with reflections, vibrant colours and treats old age with the same respect and carefree attitude as his beautiful young models. If you were self isolating last weekend, you can still buy the book online, available on his website. You’ll be supporting two worth causes: Age UK and Young Minds.
The exhibition was sponsored by Hahnemuhle and Metro Imaging.
